Who's Behind Bumpy Design?
Bumpy Design is owned and operated by Kim Scott, who's been designing and compositing books since 1993. Kim started her career in-house at Macmillan Computer Publishing (now Pearson Education), and in 1999 became a full time freelancer. Bumpy Design was incorporated in 2005 and named after one of Kim's pet iguanas, Bumpy. Little Bumpy has since passed away, but his memory lives on!
Bumpy Design is based in Central Texas, but we routinely and seamlessly work with clients in other geographic locations. Kim currently handles most of the design and composition tasks, but she may also work with other talented and qualified individuals when the need arises.
Why Choose Bumpy Design?
Experience: Bumpy Design can expertly handle a range of book cover, page design, and composition projects, from basic one-color layout to complex, full-color custom page design and composition. We can also typeset math and chemistry equations and write design specs. Kim's formal design background allows her to bring a designer's eye to page layout jobs, while her extensive composition experience ensures that her designs are functional and practical.
Timeliness, Flexibility, and Communication: At Bumpy Design, we take great care to deliver work on time and with a high degree of accuracy and quality. We know that publishing schedules frequently change. So we are accustomed to juggling multiple projects at once, and have the flexibility to accommodate changing pub dates. We also know that communication is crucial for keeping projects on track. Our policy is to frequently touch base with clients to inform them of a book's status, and to immediately flag any potential issues.
Positive Attitude and Experience: Our clients rely on Kim and Bumpy Design not only for industry experience and top-notch quality, but also for a positive, friendly attitude. We take pride in what we do, and our goal is to help make your book the best product possible.

testimonials
Kim Scott is an artist. Authors, like me, write the words. But Kim brings them to life. She is creative. She is focused. But, most of all, she listens. She has the rare gift of understanding what authors are putting into the words they write and turning them into readable art. Kim has designed five of my books. I can not imagine writing anything without her help. Thank you, Kim, for the pleasure of watching you apply your amazing gifts to my books.
--Larry Jordan, author of Final Cut Pro Power Tips, Techniques of Visual Persuasion, Final Cut Pro Power Skills, and more.
Kim is one of the first people I think of when I have a complex book design job that needs a lot of care and attention. She has that Ace quality that spans great design skills, good solid typography, and excellent layout skills in regards to appropriateness of content. She's extremely reliable and a great colleague. I'm especially impressed with her crystal ball that enables her to intuit exactly what I'm looking for. I'm always pleased to work with Kim, and see her fabulous work come to fruition in our printed books.

To the designer of this book, Kim Scott, my endless gratitude for the thoughtfulness and care you’ve put into designing these pages. I can’t express how grateful I am to have my ideas and feedback heard and to have created this project together.
